Even though Mysore was in our travel bucket from a long back, we couldn't make it till last Christmas. And finally we planned to visit this amazing place in our Christmas holidays to enjoy the winter climate in Mysore. We had a 3 days plan to stay in Mysore and started reading many blogs before the start as part of our preparation.

Accommodation - We found a lot of budget accommodation around Mysore and finding one was not much difficult. And finally we booked one through Oyo Rooms. But later understood that it was a bad choice from our side as we received a message from Oyo on the previous day saying that the room we booked was not available, and they will provide a different one. We got irritated and fought with them and finally cancelled it. And we were bit nervous as we were not having much time to find out a new one. But thanks for Goibibo as we booked another budget hotel within the city with almost same rate and we were all set for the next day.

Planning - We have done our home work before the trip which helped to cover most of the places smoothly. We had the below few places in our list.

  • Mysore Palace and its illumination in the night
  • Brindavan garden with its fountain show in the night
  • Chamundi hills
  • Mysore zoo
  • Srirangapatna

Mysore palace was one of the major spot in our list and we already had the plan to spend much time here to understand the complete historical details of each places. We found its important to get a guide to narrate all the stories and it was worth for money. Interior of the Palace was awesome and we can spend almost half a day here. Chappals are not allowed inside the Palace and it was horrible to walk through in the hot from the gate to the palace entrance.

We also had a plan to visit this palace in the late evening around 7 PM to see the fully illuminated palace. It was only for 5 minutes but something we should never miss in our life time. Great to see the palace with illumination. We heard that during the Dussehra time, the complete city will be illuminated with lights. So a visit to Mysore again during Dussehra festival is added into our bucket..!

Chamundi hills was another important spot in our list and we planned to visit there in the evening. We know this place is famous for the hot sun and that's why we planned for the evening. Yes our preparation helping us in our plan..! The views from the top of the hill was breathtaking as we can see almost the complete city from this place. Temple of Chamundeshwara is the main attraction here along with the gigantic nandi statue.

Mysore Zoo is one of the best in the South India. We can see a large variety of animals inside this zoo and most of them will be active as well. This is a very well maintained zoo with zero plastic zone, kudos to the management. It will take more than 2 hours to finish this and we need to walk for more than 3km to complete this. There is also electric car service available at the entrance, but we preferred to walk around and enjoy the place.

Brindavan garden is another important place we visited. We need to travel around half an  hour from the city to reach this place. We planned this place for the evening so that we can see the musical fountain over here which starts in the late evening.

Srirangapatna, which is around one hour towards the Bangalore side was our last place in the list. We heard a lot about the importance of this place as it was the capital city of Tipu Sultan. We have covered many of the historical places related to Tipu Sultan and we found its a must visit place in our Mysore trip.
