The Beauty of Malampuzha (Part 02):

Malampuzha Dam: Malampuzha Dam is the largest irrigation dam in Kerala. There are few steps to reach at the top of Malampuzha dam from Malampuzha Garden. Once you reach at the top of the dam, you can see the mesmerizing views of Malampuzha Reservoir, along with Western Ghats background on one side, and the beauty of Malampuzha Garden and lake, on another side. The Malampuzha dam project was begun in 1949 and been completed in 1955. The foundation stone for the project was laid on 27 March 1949, by the Public Works Minister of Madras State, Sri M. Bhaktavatsalam as Palakkad was a part of the Madras Presidency during those times. The dam was constructed in a record time, and on 9 October 1955, the Chief Minister of Madras State, Sri. K Kamaraj, been inaugurated the dam. The total catchment area is 145 square kilometres, while the reservoir has a capacity of 8000 cubic meters of water. The canal systems serve to irrigate farmland, while the reservoir provides drinking water to, Palakkad and surrounding villages The dam was constructed by the Madras government, but upon the Creation of linguistically reorganized states ,The Malabar District, encompassing the Dam became a part of the Kerala State. The stunning views from the top of the Dam attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists every day.

Ropeway Ride: Considered to be the first of its kind in South India, The ropeway (cable car) or the Udan Khatola at Malampuzha has a special place in the hearts of each tourist. The operations are managed by Usha Breco Limited, Ghaziabad. The ropeway is 60 ft. high from the ground and is of 1.26 km length. The adventurous ride on the cable car above the gardens provide, a soul-stirring experience, and a mesmerising view of the Garden and the Lake. Travellers can go around the entire garden and lake within a 20 minutes ride.

Fish Aquarium: Kerala Fisheries Department run a beautiful Fish Aquarium, adjacent to Malampuzha Garden.

Snake Park: Kerala Forest Department run a Snake rehabilitation centre in Malampuzha.
