Meenvallam is one of the offbeat destinations in South India, located near Karimba Village in Palakkad district of Kerala. It is around 30 KM away from Palakkad Town and 10 Km away from Thuppanad Junction on Palakkad - Kozhikode National Highway 966. The area is surrounded by Rubber Plantations. Meenvallam is famous for its glorious Waterfalls and forests. This forest is an extension of the Silent Valley National Park. There is an entry fee and need a short trek inside the forest to reach the falls. There are water crossings in between. Meenvallam waterfall is the final one out of the 10 waterfalls between Palakkad and Mannarkkad. It is actually a group of 5 level waterfalls on a mountain, covered by dense forest of Western Ghats. The height of the waterfall ranges from 100 - 125 feet at each level. Only one of the five levels of the falls are accessible now due to thick forest and possibility of spotting wild animals. Meenvallam Waterfalls cascades from as high as 45 metres into Thuppanadu River which originates from the Kalladikodan Hills. Thuppanadu River later joins with the Thoothapuzha, which in turn empties into Bharathapuzha River. This day trip will take you to the pristine beauty of nature, and the lush green surroundings will rejuvenate your senses. The forest road through the lush green environs bestows one with a quiet isolated space to witness nature in its most tranquil form. The forest houses a rare variety of flora and fauna. Also there are elephants, deer, tiger and bison among others. A small hydel project, with an installed capacity of three megawatts has been constructed over there by the Palakkad District Panchayat at Meenvallam. It is a must-watch paradise, when you are in Kerala- God’s Own Country.
