Idukki lies in the Western Ghats of Kerala and is the second largest district in terms of area. It is well known for its mountainous hills and dense forests. The name Idukki has been derived from the Malayalam word 'Idukku' which means a narrow gorge.
The most popular attraction of this region is its huge arch dam that supplies one-third of electricity in Kerala. Munnar, the famous hill station in Kerala is also part of the Idukki district. There are many other tourist attractions in Idukki like Vagamon, Thekkady, Cheruthoni dam, Idukki wildlife sanctuary, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kanthalloor, etc.
