Thiruparapu is a place that offers something for everyone and is ideal for a day out with family.

This is one waterfall where visitors can enjoy the cascade in abandon. Bathing in the waterfalls, then pedal across the Kothayar river and some relaxing time at the park will give anyone immense pleasure. 

The falls drop down to form a pool. The waterfall is safe, with barriers in place. The adventurous entry into the water is relatively safe considering it was built keeping the safety of the visitors. 

The scenes at the boating area is extremely beautiful, with crystal clear waters gently passing by. Visitors can enjoy a memorable boat journey because of the beautiful countryside and its eye-catching sights. The whole area is surrounded by thick green forest which is home for  variety of birds and animals and a lot of medicinal Plants. There is a temple adjacent to the waterfalls. 

Visitors need to travel 35 km from Nagercoil or 45 km from Thiruvananthapuram Central to reach Thiruparapu

Detailed Information

Thiruparapu is a 91 m long rocky riverbed waterfall at a height of nearly 15 m. The waterfall flow with great force for around seven months.The river bed above the falls is a rocky mass that extends up to a distance of about quarter of a kilometre upstream, with a weir constructed for supplying water to nearby paddy fields.

There is a  temple dedicated to Lord Shiva near the falls, called the Mahadever Kovil. The temple is famous for the Shivalaya Ottam during the Indian festival of Shivaratri. It is three of the twelve Shivalayas. After the death Satidevi, Lord Mahadev lives here as Virabhadra, a fierce incarnation of the Lord Shiva to kill Daksha Prajapati. This is the  belief of the devotees. The temple is built around A.D. 9th Century. There are many old inscriptions in this temple including the one of the Pandiya King dated ninth century. 

Thiruparapu is also known as Kumari Kuttalam. Some of the nearby attractions are Padmanabhapuram Palace, Chitharal Rock-cut Temple,Pechipparai Dam, Mathur Aquaduct, Poovar Tourist Village ,Neyyar Dam.
