"Ponmudi" meaning The Golden peak is located at an astounding height of 1,100m above the sea level and its about 60 kilometer from the Thiruvananthapuram city. It is one of the most scenic and beautiful hill stations in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of God’s Own Country.

Road to Ponmudi is a paradise for the riders. There are about 22 hair pin bends in this route and its real pleasure for any riders to enjoy this road trip. During the monsoon season the entire hill top will be covered with the fogs and it will be a unique experience for any traveler.

Kallar is another destination located at the foot of ponmudi hills. One can enjoy a quick bath at the crystal clear water of Kallar river. There is also a 1km trekking towards the Meenmutty water falls at the Kallar.

Travel Tips

  • Good to visit early morning or after 3pm, when the sun is still gentle.
  • Fog can be very tricky, so be very careful when we drive through the hilltop road.
  • Must Try - Have a cup of tea from Ramettan's Tea Stall at one of the hair pin bends on the way.
  • Take a bath in the crystal clear water at Kallar the river.

Detailed Information

Ponmudi is natural beauty with scenic splendour and  has a thick tropical forest that rolls down to the foot of the hill range. This place is definitely for trekkers to trek amongst tea plantations, gurgling brooks, dense forest and little wildlife.

It is amazing fact that one of Kerala’s most popular beach (Kovalam) and hill stations (Ponmudi) are located within a radius of 60 kilometres. The climate in this part is rather pleasant throughout the year. Monsoon season is the most charming time to visit Ponmudi hill station.

During heavy rains, the road to Ponmudi hilltop is closed due to landslide warnings. It is safer to visit in winters and enjoy the clear view of waves of rolling hills which encompass the western ghats.

The route to Ponmudi is as follows: Peroorkada – Nedumangad- Chullimanoor – Vithura – Kallar - Ponmudi

Few rooms available at KTDC hotel at hill top - Golden peak (Tariff in the range Rs.1800 to Rs.4000)
