Kollam beach also known as Mahatma Gandhi Beach is only 5km away from Kollam central. It is among the three beaches in Kerala with life guard out post. Kollam Beach is home to Chinese fishing nets and Chinese water pots. Mahatma Gandhi Park, a park of international standard is an important feature of Kollam beach.

Travelling 30 mintues from the beach via Neendakara-Chinnakkada road one can reach Ashtamudi Lake, the most visited lake in Kerala. An one hour travel towards south from Kollam beach will take you the famous Varkala Beach.

Some of the important place around Kollam beach includes Tangasseri Lighthouse, Asramam Adventure Park, Thirumullavaram Beach, Rameshwara Temple.

Kollam was a favourite settlement of the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English before Independence.

Kollam Port is one of the oldest port in Kerala. This port was once a major center for international cashew trade on the Malabar Coast. During the ninth century this port was one of the most important trade hubs. The port is situated at the Thangassery beach region. Two minutes of walk can take us to the Thangassery beach from Kollam beach.

Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Tangasseri in Kollam city, is one of the two lighthouses in the Kollam Metropolitan Area. Tangasseri in Kollam city is one of the locations in India that still maintains Anglo-Indian culture.Tangasseri is home to remnants of an ancient Portuguese built coastal defence, the St Thomas Fort, a Portuguese Cemetery, a canal, the ancient Port of Quilon and the Infant Jesus Cathedral.

Thirumullavaram beach is one of the famous beaches in Kollam. Only ten minutes is needed to reach Thirumullavaram beach from Kollam beach. The beach is famous for conducting Karkadaka Vavubali, a riutal conducted Hinudus. 

The twin harbours, Neendakara and Shakthikulangara, is situated only eleven kilometres away from Kollam beach. Neendakara harbour is the largest fishing harbour in the state. Neendakara Bridge, part of National Highway 66, which connects the village to Sakthikulangara across Ashtamudi Lake.
