The magnificent gopurams (temple towers) are the main attraction at Madurai Meenakshi Temple and evenings are the best time to visit. We were asked to deposit our mobiles, cameras, bags along with shoes and socks. The temple is massive and the architecture is amazing. Every inch of the gopurams are filled with figurines of gods, goddesses, mythological creatures and looks colourful, stunning and symmetrical.

Walking around the circumambulatory path reminded me of the mighty rulers who would have treaded through the same path I was taking now. Do not miss out on the 360* shivalingam painting on the ceiling which is an amazing display of skillsmanship. The 1000 pillared hall is mind boggling. Stand on the spot marked to get a view of the golden gopuram of the sanctum sanctorum, which is not visible from anywhere else. Enjoy the prasadam from the steps of the temple pond and soak in the divine ambience, specially at sunset.

Each and every part of the temple display excellent craftsman ship of yesteryears. Taking a guide along is highly recommended and it takes 2 hours easily to enjoy the beautiful temple at leisure.Do not forget to taste the yummy ''jigarthanda'', a speciality of Madurai.
