Edikkal cave

Edakkal cave:
The green paradise Waynad has lot to offer apart form its lash green tea garden and forest. In our 2 nights 3 days we are going to explore a different wayand  and it’s  rich history and culture. Edekkal cave located on the Ambukuthi Hills, is one of the historical wonder of waynad and  the beautiful Stone carvings made by neolitihic men about 6000 years ago is a definite no-miss.
To reach the cave, you have to climb on a road for about a km or so and then about 300-odd steps, which are pretty steep. It looks daunting at first but is not very difficult, if you take it slow. There are lots of small shops selling everything from home-made chocolates and teas to omelets. So fill your stomach based on your preference

Tickets: ticket price is Rs.50 per person and 20 rupees for the plastic bottle which is refundable, if you came back with the bottle.

Edikkal cave Who should go and when :
Best time for Edkkal  cave visit during winter however we visited during pre-monsoon and it was pretty vibrant. The place opens at 9:30 AM to evening 4pm and its best to reach there early. And please take all of your stuff in bags - monkeys aplenty!
The climb to the caves is very difficult for senior citizens having problem of knees. The stone steps are uneven and some of these are not wide enough. Hence avoid travelling with senior people.

Road trip: Bangalore to Wayanad  distance 271 km via Mysuru. It’s one of the beautiful road trip from Bangalore.  We started from bangalore around 5 AM in the morning and hoping to reach Wayanad by 12-12:30 PM. While you are travelling with baby it’s very important to keep your baby well hydreded, also carry some snacks with you
To keep the baby engage, its a good idea to take few of favourite toys. Tinni took a unicorn soft toy with her and was full busy to take care of it. In between we took a quick breakfast break at 8  AM before Mysuru. There are lot of options for breakfast on the way and you can choose any as per your choice.

Forest road:
On the way you will cross Bandipur tiger reserve forest and don’t keep your eyes away from the jungle. You may get an opportunity to spot multiple animals & birds. Our 3 years old daughter Tinni is enjoying a lot and keeping a close eye towards forest and we spotted deer, dhole (wild dog) and elephant on the way.

Next road:
After exploring the edekkal cave we are now heading towards  mepaddi - mepaddi is one of the most beautiful place in waynad, surrounded with cloud covered hills and tea state. We have booked a beautiful property here called Jungle Beats Resorts . All the beautiful places in our itenary are nearby from this place. Isn’t it amazing!! Its surrounded by forest and the river stream is flowing down there. There are multiple reason why we booked this resort - amazing location, Unique concept and surrounded by  forest and river. like - 900 kandi glass bridge, Heritage museum, soochipara falls, Kanthapura waterfalls, Banasura dam is bit far from here but accessible within an hour and half.
