Rameswaram city is approximately 200 kilometres away from the city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu. This place is known for its different old hindu temples related to the Ramayana myth and it is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples. This tiny fishing town in Tamil Nadu is blessed with beautiful beaches, underwater natural wonders, a bird sanctuary and so much more.
According to historians, all the temples here are connected to the journey of Sri Ram marching along with the army towards the kingdom ruled by Ravana to save Sita devi. This is the place from which Ram Setu was built by the Vanar Sena to mainland Lanka (Sri Lanka).
The major attraction of the place is the famous Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. People believe that, Ram had prayed here to Lord Shiva in order for forgiveness for killing a Brahmin (Ravana). People coming to Rameswaram often take a holy dip at Agni Teertham which is at the northern end of the Ramanathaswamy Temple.
Another important destination in Rameswaram is Dhanushkodi. Since it is the extreme end of India towards Srilanks and its breath-taking natural beauty, this is becoming one of the most popular destination in Tamilnadu.
There are many other small temples in this town and most of it are connected with the Ramayana myth. Few of the other major places in Rameswaram are Kalam Memorial, Kalam House, Pamban Bridge etc.
