The Unchalli Falls, also known as Lushington Falls named after its discoverer, is located in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada District, near Siddapur. During the British Colonial period, it was discovered in 1845 by the District Collector, J.D Lushington. This waterfall, which stands 116 meters tall, flows from the Aghanashini River and is surrounded by dense forests. The magnificent falls are located near Hegganur, which is a 6 km trek away. The hike provides an incredible view of the falls, with numerous opportunities to see rainbows!

The speciality of this waterfall is that it is an all-season waterfall, and the panoramic beauty is unparalleled. The Unchalli fall gives the feeling and aroma of eternal bliss, and the thriving greenery heals your soul and soothes your senses. The waterfall can make you believe in how simple life really can actually be.

The hike up to the falls begins in the small village of Hegganur, where parking for private or tourist vehicles is available. Once you've left your cars and are ready to begin your journey, ask locals about the best routes to take at that time. It is also strongly advised that visitors who are not frequent trekkers seek the assistance of a guide because the trek is rugged and slightly dangerous. It's mostly recommended so you don't get lost in the dense forests.

It is a very scenic route surrounded by hugely diverse Flora and Fauna. It is difficult enough to give you a workout and an endorphin rush, but easy enough for the elderly and children to do. When you reach the top platform, a series of natural rocky steps will lead you to the bottom.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to Trek, then you will find a motorable road up to 1 km from the waterfall. After that, you will have to cover the distance on your foot. But this small trek (Well Laid Steps) will also be picturesque and full of nature’s beauty. You can get a stunning view of the waterfall from the viewing deck or you can even carefully hike down the steps to reach the foot of the falls for a closer look. With abundant water cascading down, the falls are at their most beautiful during the monsoon season!

The waterfall is situated about 440 km away from Bangalore. You can drive down here and plan your stay at either Sirsi or Siddapura, both located at a distance of 35 km from the attraction. Plan your trip on a bright sunny day if you’re looking for clear skies, but the route is foggy and beautiful during the rainy season as well! Walking through a thick blanket of the forest, absorbing the sights and sounds of nature and watching the gorgeous rainbow created by spraying water droplets of the falls - the Unchalli Falls will give you a feel of Niagara right here in Karnataka!
