Hampi- The heritage of karnataka
I am recommending to all the history lovers to visit the place and lost yourself into the ruins.
Hampi the former capital of Vijayanagar dynasty is declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO famous for its magnificent architecture and historical values. Hampi is situated by the river of Tungavadra. It is a great place to spend a few days wandering around and discovering the rich, vibrant history.Every year during the first week of November Hampi hosts “Hampi Utsav” which is a visual delight as all the monuments and ruins are lit at night and dance, music performances were organized.
There are many sites in and around Hampi:
- Virupaksha Temple: This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva.
- Vithala Temple: It is famous for photogenic and splendid Stone Chariot and musical pillars.
- Hazara Rama Temple: Hindu epics Ramayana is depicted on the wall.
- Zanana Enclosure: Where the famous Lotus Mahal is situated.
- Statue of Lakshmi Narasimha: It is a monolithic statue of a fiery form of Lord Vishnu.
- Matanga Hill: The most beautiful sunset can be seen from here.

How to go: Distance from Bangalore 346.5 km. From Bangalore to Hospet by train or bus or car, from Hospet to Hampi by Auto or Car. Nearest railway station: Hospet. Nearest airport: Belgaum. Distance from Hospet to Hampi is 13 km.
Best time to Visit: October to March.
