Chitraduraga Fort:
Chitra means “Picture” Durga means “Fort”. The picturesque fort is situated in Chitradurga district. Chitradurga fort built during 17th and 18th century. Many rulers ruled the fort over the different eras. The fort was expanded during the rule of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. Within the fort premises many temples, masjid, storage of oil and grain, citadel and grinding stone of gun powder mills are there to see.

The fort is also famous for the story of the legend Obavva,who was the wife of a security guard of the fort. She fought with soliders of Hyder Ali and died during the battle to protect the fort.
 

There are 18 temples in the upper part and one temple in lower part.Among these Hidimbeshwara temple is the  oldest and have historical value of Mahabharta epic.

How to go: Distance from Bangalore 201km. Chitradurga is easily accessible by road and railway line from Bangalore.It can be a day trip from Bangalore to exlore the fort.
Best time to Visit: September to February.
