The remaining parts have ruined due to negligence. The architecture seems to be a confluence of many - the lion with fangs is a prominent piece of Hoysala and Vijayanagar rulers. The curved archways resembles Islamic style while the massive, smooth, round pillars could be European styled.

We walked through the blazing sun to reach the Hall and immediately felt the coolness as soon as we entered inside. Few locals told us that the Hall is built of mud bricks and hence remains cool inspite of the sun. The museum forays into the history of the place and is quite informative. A light and sound show takes place every evening in English and Tamil at the open courtyard at the centre. Though maintained by ASI, the palace lacked cleanliness, was quite dusty and dirty. But do not get discouraged by that, for the Hall displays grandeur in designs and architecture.

Enjoy a chill chill ''jigarthanda'' from one of the shops outside the Hall, a close associate of ''falooda'' but authentic to Madurai.
