The jeep ride starts after the monsoon season. Here I am sharing my experience of trekking on July 19, 2025.

The trek starts from Kulem Railway station (Goa). This trek can be undertaken only with a permit from the Forest Department, Government of Goa. The booking counter for the trek is located near the railway station. The trek fee is about Rs. 700/-per person. I.D. Card is mandatory. We will be accompanied by a guide and we will have to travel with him. The distance of the trek one way is about 11 km. The time taken for the one way journey is 4-5 hours. The first 4 km of the trek, you have to travel on the railway track. Then the trek continues on a forest path. (The trek may be restricted at times during the rainy season). The trek is on a flat path that is not too difficult. The stretch of about one km, has to be climbed. Along the way, you can see green forests, streams, and small waterfalls. Best time to trek: June–September. The weather is good during October–February, and it is suitable for trekking and jeep tours, but the water level in the waterfall is low.

For the trek, you can wear sandals with belt or shoes with a good grip. Since water flows along the route, it is advisable to wear good sandals. The threat of leeches is not that much. It is advisable to carry a water bottle, snacks, etc. Mobile network is poor.

Walking in the rain, walking through the forest path and watching the waterfall is a wonderful experience.

Through this trek, you can reach the bottom of the waterfall. Due to heavy rain, we were not allowed to go down into the water. The upper waterfall viewing point is not permitted.

However, when we were coming back next day, someone pulled the train chain near the waterfall and stopped the train, so we got a closer look at the waterfall.

We had done the trek through a tour operator. They had arranged for us accommodation, snacks and meals. But later we felt that the money they charged us was too much. You can find trek providers at the railway station itself and I think it is advisable for you to do the trek with them. You can also book the trek online.

Note: Trekking on railway tracks without permission is a crime and the police will arrest such people.

There is a daily direct train to Kulem from Yeshwanthpur, which starts at 3 pm and reaches Kulem next morning around 2 am.
